A personal-domain comparison

Is Freemail Better Than Google Workspace for Your Domain?

Freemail can be the better choice for a personal domain that only needs a small send-and-receive inbox with no Freemail subscription. Google Workspace is the better fit when Gmail, shared documents, meetings or a cloud archive are part of the requirement. Freemail does not replace the whole Workspace suite.

Pay for the workflow you actually use

A one-person portfolio may need hello@yourdomain.com without needing a document suite. That is the useful Freemail comparison. If your working day depends on Gmail and Google’s collaboration tools, removing the subscription also means replacing those workflows. Freemail Free’s browser-only archive is a separate compromise, not equivalent cloud storage.

Choose Freemail when

A small, separate inbox fits

  • You need domain email rather than a productivity subscription.
  • Your one domain and two addresses fit Free, and you accept manual backups and a Resend key.

Choose Google Workspace when

Its workflow matters more

  • You depend on Gmail, Drive, Docs or Meet together.
  • You need a cloud archive and account management for multiple people.

Before switching from Google Workspace

Check whether your domain is also used for Google account identity, shared Drive files and calendars. A mail MX change does not migrate those services. Export the messages you need and keep the old account accessible until you have verified the new mail flow.

Changing MX records changes incoming delivery for the domain. Create the addresses you need and save old mail first. Replace the previous provider’s mail-routing records as instructed; do not mix unrelated MX sets. Test sending and receiving after DNS propagation, then decide when to close the old service. Existing mail does not move automatically. Read the routing and migration notes.

Questions about Google Workspace and Freemail

Can I get Gmail on my domain through Freemail?

No. Freemail provides its own web inbox. It does not turn a personal Gmail account into Google Workspace or include Google’s paid services.

Will switching MX records move my Gmail history?

No. MX records control future delivery. Existing Gmail messages, labels, documents and calendars do not transfer when you change DNS.
