A personal-domain comparison

Is Freemail Better Than Forward Email for Your Domain?

Freemail can be better if you want to send and receive from a dedicated $0 web inbox and accept local storage plus your own Resend key. Forward Email can be better for forwarding many domains or for its paid hosted-mail and client-access features. Its paid service should not be described as forwarding only.

Compare the free workflow and the paid mailbox separately

Forward Email Free forwards incoming messages. Enhanced Protection adds hosted storage and outbound SMTP. That makes the free-to-free comparison different from the paid-to-paid one. Freemail Pro adds cloud storage too, but Forward Email’s published paid storage allocation and domain model may be a stronger fit for some domain portfolios.

Choose Freemail when

A small, separate inbox fits

  • You want a dedicated $0 inbox that can send through your Resend account.
  • One domain and two addresses meet your needs without a hosted cloud archive.

Choose Forward Email when

Its workflow matters more

  • You want free forwarding for a portfolio of domains.
  • You want paid hosted mail with IMAP, more pooled storage or many domains.

Before switching from Forward Email

Record forwarding recipients and export any hosted mailbox data while the old account is available. Do not assume Freemail imports Forward Email account settings or its encrypted storage format. Keep a readable backup and test the new addresses before retiring the old configuration.

Changing MX records changes incoming delivery for the domain. Create the addresses you need and save old mail first. Replace the previous provider’s mail-routing records as instructed; do not mix unrelated MX sets. Test sending and receiving after DNS propagation, then decide when to close the old service. Existing mail does not move automatically. Read the routing and migration notes.
